Being a furry is about identifying as a furry.

Of my friends who ID as furries, most of them are also involved in furry fandom, but just like there are gay people who aren't interested in being involved with "gay culture" at all, I also know some people who ID as furries but have little to no involvement with furry culture. They have their own personal fursona, but don't care about being part of a community.

Er, could you expand on that comparison? The furry fandom seems fun, but I still don't understand the difference between liking anthro art and identifying as a furry.
