My god, are you me? I don't know why this is a thing either but I do exactly this.

My theory is that you don't have to "fact-check" it? As in, when you're going through it you don't have to stop and go, "Well, okay, but is that physically comfortable, would that certain thing feel good for me, etc, etc," because IRL your sexual adventures don't and won't involve two gay dudes. (Probably.)

Glad I'm not alone! I think it's a combination between general gay-ness (the idea of straight sex just does nothing for me), what you said about fact checking (my gay fantasies are super kinky and probably really unrealistic) and probably something to do with the different way the male body works, the sort of "outward" arousal men have with the penis.
