In other cultures and languages someone being called "a dog" can have very different meanings though.

well good for them, but if some one in the cultures being discussed here is called a dog IT'S A BAD THING. ALWAYS BAD. it should not matter that some one else (who is not even involved in the conversation whatsoever) might think it's a good thing. in this context IT ISN'T.

Yes, because pointing that OP has a point and there's more than one meaning in the whole world (hence the "anglo thing") is completely irrelevant in the context of the secret.

All good and well, but the cultures I was referring to use it in a negative context, ergo using dog to negatively refer to someone is not an "anglo-thing"
