Wait, I thought I read somewhere that Scar is Nala's dad because otherwise Mufasa would be her dad and Disney didn't want Simba to fall in love with his sister?

Yes, Scar is Nala's dad. In the original run of the movie, Nala has green eyes. They later made them blue, for obvious reasons. It's the same reason why Kovu is obviously Scar's son, but they changed it. Yeah, the lion whose name means scar, looks exactly like scar, and is only a little bit older than Simba's child just happens to not be Scar's child. Nope.

No, he isn't.

Scar as both Nala and Kovu's father? When he ends up with Nala's daughter? Nope.

Nala originally had green eyes, and this was long before Kiara was ever thought of. (If you don't know, Simba and Nala actually had a son and not a daughter. He only appeared in the books, though the child at the end of the first movie looks nothing like Kiara. They changed it for the sequel) Anyway, they purposely changed it to blue in the rereleases. Why do you think that is?

... Wow, I didn't remember Nala's green eyes :o I saw the movie in theatres when it got released, and I was a small kid. Were they green or blue in the VHS?

But it is true that Simba and Nala's baby at the end of the first movie doesn't look like Kiara. Hmmm.

Why am I craving TLK fanfiction with a first male son who ran away to found his own pride... and that's the reason Simba is so damn OOC overprotective with his daughter? O_O

A lot of fans theorize that Zira from TLK 2 killed or at least harmed Simba's son enough to make him run away.

Which is why Simba is so overprotective of Kiara.

Also, Nala's eyes always seemed to be right on the border between blue and green, to me. In some scenes, they appear more blue, and some, they appear more green.
Unless they were a more prominent green when I was a child and I just don't remember.

The books, however, aren't considered canon. And still, Disney clearly don't want any incest in their films, so I very much doubt that Nala and Simba are related. It may have been so early on, but it isn't the case now.

If they changed it, they made the change canon. Ergo, Scar is not Nala's father.

I read somewhere (This is going to be a popular phrase today) that her dad was just a passing lion? I wish we had some kind of firm backstory.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
IDK. I think it's kind of like that one movie...Kate and Leopold or whatever I think, where the guy from the past was going to be the ex's ancestor, and this was wayyyy late into the movie, I mean test screening phase. They were told, "Uh, but that would mean she was fucking her own greatgreatgreatgreatetc grandson then?" and they changed it at the last minute.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
That would make Simba in love with his cousin instead. They obviously have an issue with that too, since they went out of their way to point out that Kovu, the male lion in the sequel, while being Scar's 'successor', is not his biological son. This is because they didn't want him to be related to Simba and Nala's daughter.

Disney pretty much fail at lions.

I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm pretty sure that Kovu in the second movie was originally going to be Scar's child until they realized that would make Kiara & Kovu into kissing cousins.

At an event for the 10th anniversary of TLK, Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers admitted that while they didn't elaborate on it in the movie because they had been hoping it wouldn't occur to the audience to think about it, Nala's father is "probably" Scar or Mufasa.
