Re: Christmas thread for cynics!
It's probably mostly where I live. The Christians here are like a walking Onion article who have never hear of Jesus and this time of year is like trying to maneuver a field of hidden landmines who are desperately searching for an excuse to blow up at you while whining that you're terrorizing them.
Mostly I hate the War on Christmas bullshit and the volunteers who come to the organizations I volunteer at for their yearly good deed and ignore my instructions, leave me with a huge mess, and treat me like shit when I turn down invitations to their church.
The highlight of this year was having to call HR because my boss threatened to fire me for refusing to say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays to customers I know do not celebrate Christmas. Thankfully that's been resolved but it was so infuriating and unpleasant at the time. I got called agenda pushing and disrespectful for taking a gesture of goodwill and using it to... wish goodwill to people of all faiths instead of being passive aggressive about Christ.
I'm just really really sick of self righteous people being dickbags and pretending to be holier than me simultaneously.
But it's OVER! I can finally laugh about the creepy old lady who went around to personally wishing every employee a Merry Christmas last night at close, repeating herself increasingly intensely until each employee said the exact words "Merry Christmas" instead of some version of "Thanks, you too!"
I'm probably going to hear about it when I go back to work on Wednesday because a manager witnessed the whole thing but at that point her hateful expression was the last straw and I refused to say anything but "Oh, thanks, you too! Drive safe!", "Enjoy your Christmas!", and "You too! Have a good night!" until I gave up and walked off.

Re: Christmas thread for cynics!
Oh fuck. That sounds actually like an awful, awful holidays experience. WTF with the people on your neighborhood? No wonder you hate it so much, I'd surely do it too if I had to deal with such dickbags every holiday season!
Re: Christmas thread for cynics!
I'd only say I've noticed it being like this hostile for the past three years. But three years ago is when I really started working retail and customer service so I have no idea if I'm just exposed to it more now or if this is really a change in attitude.
