Re: Christmas thread for cynics!

I think "abusive parent" and "decent human being" are mutually exclusive. Get her some useless old utensil (maybe a nose hair trimmer) or a matching pen and pencil. Or twenty pounds of lutefisk.

I'm sorry you have such a situation on your hands.

I understand that reasonably it might be so, but I just can't bring myself to hate her/think of her in this terms. I see that she has feelings, too, and I have no wish of getting my revenge on her by hurting them somehow. My childhood cannot be fixed, and spoiling the life of another person isn't going to make anything better.

But thank you anyway! I can use some sympathy.

*Not above's Anon*

I can offer you hugs. I'm sad this happened to you, Dreemy, and I really admire you for the mature approach you're taking to this. My best wishes for you, and I hope the ordeal gets over quickly and as painlessly as possible.

AYRT

You sound like a much more generous and forgiving person than I am; I can see how an abusive parent might work to become a decent human being, but not how one can be a decent human being while being an abusive parent.

And of course an abusive person has feelings too! The thing that separates someone like that from someone like you is that to an abusive person, only their feelings matter.
