I had no problems with your secret, OP, and I agree with what you're saying. The issues you pointed out have always been a problem in society and will most like continue to be so. It's just human nature. My issue was with feokatahari's comment that everyone who idealizes the '50's is

I had no problems with your secret, OP, and I agree with what you're saying. The issues you pointed out have always been a problem in society and will most like continue to be so (although I admit I've never, ever heard the line that business was perceived as being more honest during the'50's). It's just human nature. The reason you sometimes hear people talk about how the family was better preserved/business was better is because, generally speaking, the same people making those claims grew up during that era and have fond memories of it. Doesn't everyone idealize their childhood? As a child, the cracks under the surface are harder to notice.

My issue was with feokatahari's comment that everyone who idealizes the '50's is CLEARLY a minority-hating, mustache-twirling bigot. The reason people idealize or sugarcoat the past (particularly if that was their own childhood) is numerous and complex, and making such a sweeping generalization like that just sounds idiotic.
