Having friends is irrelevant in this case, since Penny has friends too.

Having a successful career and being ok with your family - and even having friends - doesn't mean you can't be a dumbass.

"Having friends is irrelevant in this case, since Penny has friends too."

Who? What friends does Penny have, prior to Season 3 or 4, when more female characters were shoehorned-in for the specific purpose of being her friends?

We've seen her invite people over for a Halloween party, and we've seen her invite people over to watch a football game. In other words, she apparently has acquaintances who come over to drink, but we don't see her having any heart-to-heart conversations with a dear friend or having anybody that's emotionally close to her. We don't see her confide in anyone or have fun with anyone or have a network of supportive people, except the guys. We sure don't see her passing the Bechdel Test.

We know almost nothing of her social life outside of the four guys, so it's possible that she *does* have friends, but it's never shown.

"Having a successful career and being ok with your family - and even having friends - doesn't mean you can't be a dumbass."

It's not at all clear what your argument is, here. IMO anyone who has friends and a job and spends their time in a productive, positive manner and does more good than harm in the world, is doing okay at life. Does having flaws and making mistakes mean you're a "dumb-ass"??

Sure, Leonard has flaws and makes mistakes and so do all the other characters. I'm not even a particular fan of Leonard, he's probably my least-favorite of the four guys, but I've noticed a trend lately of people judging the four guys a lot more harshly than they judge Penny, who likewise has flaws and issues.

You just sound like Leslie Winkle, repeating the word "dumb-ass" over and over.

Nobody who gets up each day and goes to work and manages to face the world is a loser. It's perfectly legit to argue that each of these characters have some bad habits and some not-so-great personality traits, but how does being flawed make you a dumb-ass?

All the character have weaknesses and failings, but some people seem to think they're being hip or feminist by bashing the male characters more than the female ones.

lol aren't you defensive

Aren't the boys her friends? Every single character in the show is awful, I don't know what makes you think I actually like any of them, girls included. My point was that it doesn't matter if the guys have careers and a higher IQ, that doesn't mean they are better than Penny or are not dumbasses in other areas.

"lol aren't you defensive"

We're just engaging in a discussion, here. A debate. You make a comment, and then I reply. That's how it works. If you think that anyone who disagrees with you in an online discussion is "being defensive", you must not be very familiar with fandom or with any kind of friendly debate.

If you don't like ANY of the characters, why are you even bothering to discuss this show, or to comment?

Apparently you can't clarify your argument or actually explain what you mean, so you just keep repeating the word "dumbass."

How is it irrelevant? The issue was whether or not Leonard was a dumbass, not whether Leonard was better than Penny at making friends. Having a circle of friends is a good thing, and Leonard has achieved this. Whether or not anyone else has achieved it doesn't detract from Leonard's accomplishment.

"Having a successful career and being ok with your family - and even having friends - doesn't mean you can't be a dumbass."

This is true, but it doesn't address the point that these are all worthy accomplishments for a supposed dumbass to have. They're things a lot of people wish they had, so your argument's a bit weaksauce there.
