Secret 1 - The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (Soviet series of TV movies)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Sherlock Holmes, as portrayed by Vasily Livanov, and Dr. Watson, as portrayed by Vitaly Solomin, from the Soviet series of television films "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson". They are both sitting on green armchairs, with a tea table between them. They are looking over their shoulders in the direction of the camera, although for some reason they're not actually making eye contact with the audience.]

I'm not even Russian, but... This has always been my favorite of all Sherlock Holmes adaptations.

Secret 2 - Rachel Getting Married (film)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Anne Hathaway portraying Kym from the drama movie "Rachel Getting Married". She is a young woman with light skin, light brown eyes, short brown hair reaching her chin and wearing a gray blouse and something (a bag?) with a brown leather strap over her shoulder. She is standing inside a bedroom with blue walls, a bedside lamp and a map of the world on a wall.]

I still think this was Anne Hathaway's best performance.

Secret 3 - Wizards vs Aliens (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a promotional image featuring Tom Clarke, as portrayed by Scott Haran, and Benny Sherwood, as portrayed by Percelle Ascott, from the British TV series "Wizards vs Aliens". Tom Clarke has light skin, short dark hair combed to make it sort of voluminous and wearing a red jacket. Benny Sherwood has dark skin, short dark hair and is wearing eyeglasses and a flannel cream-colored shirt. They both look fairly young, teenagers. Tom Clarke is doing some colorful firey water thing with magic and looking determined at the camera, while Benny Sherwood looks fascinated and surprised at something off-screen. There are fantasy-type backgrounds behind them, with stone cities, candles, metal arcs, caves, etc.]

I wish more people who complain about Moffat's Who and liked RTD's way of handling characters and development checked out Wizards vs Aliens and joined its small, fledging fandom.

Yes, it's a kid show, but - after a slightly shaky start - it's everything that I've seen so many people claim that they miss. Grounded characters whose feelings grow and change and last beyond the course of a single episode? The belief that friendship, love, and faith can overcome almost any obstacle? Moral dilemmas where pacifism and forgiveness are held as true virtues? A jubilant love of technology and learning and exploration and life? Racial and sexual diversity in the main cast? Female characters who don't just exist to be spunky/sexy/witty/etc?

Oh and remember The Girl Who Waited and how that episode was NEVER brought up again? Or Amy's traumatic pregnancy that was brought up ONCE and then quickly resolved? We've got that covered too.

Secret 4 - Neil Gaiman (writer), Sandman (comic)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a tumblr post by the writer Neil Gaiman, answering a question by the user "zarmyn".

Zarmyn asks: So um, Mr. Joseph Gordon-Levitt just mention something about a Sandman movie with you involved... Does that mean you're actually allowing it to really, truly happen this time?

Neil Gaiman answers: I don't get to allow or not Sandman adaptations. When I was 26, and I signed the Sandman contract, it was as work for hire. DC comics (now DC Entertainment, part of Warner Bros) own all of Sandman, including movie and TV rights, and always has done.

Like you, I've seen the tweet from Joseph that says he's a producer on a SANDMAN movie. He's a fine actor and a smart director, and a really nice man. Like you, I'm interested in seeing what happens next.

(There have been producers, and writers, and directors before on Sandman movies & TV series during the last 18 years. So far no movies have been made, although we have escaped a few bad ones.)]

[Text from the Secret Maker]

I think he's got some of the dumbest most passive-aggressive fans I've ever seen.

[arrow at the question] What the fuck?

[arrow at explanation of ownership of Sandman] 1) The Sandman ownership issues is in his Frequently Asked Questions.

2. Asking if he's "actually allowing it" is practically accusing him of legally blocking a Sandman movie.

(A real fan would/should know better.)

Secret 5 - American Horror Story: Coven

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Nan, as portrayed by Jamie Brewer, from the TV series "American Horror Story: Coven". She is a young woman with light skin, long wavy brown hair and wearing an old-fashioned black dress and hat with a white blouse.]

I want her to be the next Supreme.

Secret 6 - My Chemical Romance (musical group), Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the album "Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys" by the musical group "My Chemical Romance". It shows the silhouette of a spider superimposed over the landscape of a desert type of place.]

This is one of my favourite albums. Not just from My Chemical Romance but all time. It's also the reason I'm upset they called it quits: there's never going to be a follow up to this like Danger Days Part 2. I would have pre-ordered that.

Secret 7 - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (film)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the soundtrack of the film "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close". It shows a boy with light olive skin and blue eyes wearing a hoodie and covering the sides of his mouth with his hands.]

I think this is one of the best book to film adaptations. The scene where Oscar monologues to the Renter made me cry really hard.

Secret 8 - Mass Effect (videogames), Samara (character)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Samara from the videogame series "Mass Effect". She is an alien with blue skin, some red strips of something metallic-looking around and above her eyes, short metallic-looking hair and wearing a metallic-looking necklace and clothing.]

I liked the fact that you can't romance her if you play as Renegade (I did). It just felt like a really in-character thing and I was really happy about it.

Secret 9 - Rules of Engagement (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Timmy, as portrayed by Adhir Kalyan, and Russell, as portrayed by David Spade, from the TV series "Rules of Engagement". Timmy has short black hair, dark olive skin and is wearing a gray suit and eyeglasses. Russell has light skin, blond hair reaching his cheeks on the front and his neck on the back, the beginnings of a mustache and beard and is wearing a dark suit with a purple shirt. They are both sitting on a wooden bench somewhere with other people hanging and sitting around too. Timmy is smiling and staring at the distance, while Russell stares at him kind of dreamily.]

I wish this fandom was bigger. Or pornier. Where is all the filthy Russel/Timmy smut???

Secret 10 - Slipknot (musical group)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-captures of a text editor program.]

I wish Slipknot would break up already. Slipknot stopped being a healthy thing for me after Paul died, and I fully support Joey Jordison's decision to leave the band.

Secret Because: My actual reason for moving away from Slipknot is petty.

Not Secret - Naruto fandom?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a fanart of a grown-up Naruto from the manga and anime of the same name. It shows him wearing an open shirt and standing on a pond. He is a young man with light olive skin, short, spiky blond hair and a tattoo of a spiral with pointy things around it around his navel.]

This artist is waaaay overrated. Weird faces, strange anatomy, ugly hands, weak shading style. But try telling that to his fans.

Also? The only reason his girlfriend is popular is by association. She seems to think it's because of her ~excellent~ writing.

Notes

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
It seems the fanart is titled "Frog Prince" and was drawn by the artist "zombieskully" on DeviantART, but it's "in storage" and thus unavailable for viewing.
