Favorite AU episodes

Exactly what it says on the tin. I love when shows get creative and do AU eps.

Ultimate Enemy from Danny Phantom...sort of. It was also the best episode in other respects as well because it was all around awesome.

Also ...forgive me for this tangent but I'm really happy to hear that people like AU eps because as a creator I love them as well and one of my works in progress already has a canon AU in it (it's a long story as to why) and I was afraid that this sort of thing would annoy readers. So I guess it's sort of a relief.

Remedial Chaos Theory from Community was great, definitely part of the later seasons' saving grace. I also really liked Finn the Human/Jake the Dog. The Friends AU episode was really underwhelming for me?

I *love* remedial chaos theory. Especially cause it bred the evil!Abed and co. characters.

Heh, I was just quoting Remedial Chaos Theory to my aunt eariler today. For reasons known only to them her sons had set out a candy dish in the bathroom, so I had to tell her about Troy and Abed's toilet olives.

I've never truly recovered from the SG1 ep "2010". The ending kills me every time.

I'm not sure if this counts as AU but I love the Angel episode where he's a muppet.

Re: Favorite AU episodes

(Anonymous) 2013-12-27 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love that one too!

Angel did do an AU where Cordelia never teamed up with Angel and became a sucessful actress but started sensing something wasn't right. It was pretty good.

The "Dream a Little Dream of Me" Supernatural episode. It was so sad. :(

I really quite enjoyed the SGA episode that had Sheppard as a cop in Las Vegas(I think) instead of going into the military, although I did mourn the lack of Ronon and Teyla.

While the first things that come to mind are of course Star Trek's Mirror Universe and Fringe's Redverse (and the Noir narrative in "Brown Betty"), I'm going to go with Doctor Who's "Inferno." It's one of the most disturbing Classic Who stories out there, what with the evil twin thing and the kill-'em-all ending. Caroline John, Nick Courtney, and Olaf Pooley as Stahlman(n) turn in some wonderful double-duty performances. Pertwee carries the thing marvelously, even if the monsters are a bit extraneous (poor Benton!), what with the whole death-by-lava thing. And of course I know I am the only person in the universe who does, but I kinda ship Liz and Petra, the scientist on the drill project in our universe. Great serial, the only flaw is that we don't get a proper farewell from Liz; but I suppose since she left due to her pregnancy, they may not have known at the end of the season if she'd be back.

Inferno was so brilliant! One of my favorites in Three's whole run :)

Fringe!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-27 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, the AU was part of the fabric of the show and the reason for the Fringe Division.

NewsRadio - Space; Sinking Ship

(Anonymous) 2013-12-27 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know, the Newsradio episodes were the first things I thought of, but I'm actually not that crazy about them as episodes. They're not really all that funny looking back at them.

It's been a very long time since I've seen them, but I have fond memories of the episodes of Hercules: the Legendary Journeys that ostensibly took place behind the scenes of the TV show, with actors from the series playing the writers, producers, and other staff. Anybody else remember those?

I remember those! Those two episodes are probably my favorite clip shows of all time because they were totally hilarious.

Mirror Mirror from Star Trek TOS (I didn't care for the DS9 ones as much, but they were interesting too.)

Inferno from Doctor Who.

The Wish from Buffy.

There But For The Grace of God from Stargate SG1.

Does the Never-Been-Born sequence of "It's A Wonderful Life" count? The scene with alt!Ernie the cabdriver is one of the most horrifying scenes of anything I've ever seen. The actor was goddamn brilliant in the dual role.

I know there's more I love but I can't remember them.

I loved the "sideways" world in the last season of Lost. Especially Sawyer and Miles as buddy cops.

"The End" from Supernatural (whcih has a LOT of AU episodes, apparently.) It's terribly depressing, but I like the characterization. And I've got a bit of a thing for future!Cas. >_>

Stargate SG-1's episode with the guys who wanted to make a show. With the Farscape thing.
