I think the ending was supposed to be more bittersweet than happy although like you I didn't find anything "sweet" about it. It was just depressing. I'm honestly surprised at all the people I've seen who call the game "moving" and an "emotional journey". It was just kind of boring to me

but maybe I'm just extra bitter because unlike you, I did pay full price. God fucking dammit
