Is there a literary/cinematic term for this?

When something surreal/strange happens and all characters in the story just take it in stride.

One example I can think of is in Utena, were during the council meetings there's always a bunch of stuff happening in the background.

It's one of the hallmarks of magical realism but I don't remember there being a real term for it. (Or at least it's one of the tools I use to define the genre but I might be wrong or drunk).
