I personally watch both. I watch stuff like Criminal Minds ,Cold Case Files, and Law and Order SVU, but I also watch stuff like Danny Phantom , Disney movies, and MLP:FiM.

I don't think there's many adults that exclusively watch kid's shows, many people watch both. Though for me....sometimes the daily drama of life, dark and dramatic stuff and all that gets to be monotonous or just to much. and kids shows have some element of innocence and hope at the end and some shows just remind me of the good parts of being a kid again.

Also, sometimes the characters and story just grab me and pull me in. *Shrug* simple as that, an interesting show is an interesting show.

Oh also..sometimes "adult works" can be aimed at adults but still not really mature.

Watching Big Bang Theory with my parents is just downright uncomfortable for me sometimes and not just because my parents are there (but that doesn't help).

Just because it's for an older audience doesn't make it "more mature"

I think a great many things compare favorably to Big Bang Theory, it's certainly not something I'd hold up as the pinnacle of what a sitcom can do with the format.
