He also said we should go back to Jim Crow laws.

LOL

It's kinda cute how incredibly fucking stupid you are :)

nayrt (and not a Christian)

but please don't do that. Christians aren't stupid and they aren't inherently bigots. don't sink down to AYRT's level, please.

No, he just said black people were happier back then.

Look at them now, is he really wrong?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Compared to when they had to slap on a fake smile and pretend not to mind about being denied equal access to basic services and being blocked from the voting booth, for fear of being beaten or lynched? Yes, it seems very likely that he's wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
...wow.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Good fucking god, check your damn privilege.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
DA. I do not agree with anything the man said, but neither do I like paraphrasing, particularly when it comes to controversial opinions. You can cite a quotation, and then your interpretation of it, but saying "he said ____" when you're paraphrasing is not correct.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
He said they were whistling and smiling. You know, because a straight cisgendered white man really has the best opinions of the state of minorities during severe segregation.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
People can whistle and smile even if other aspects of their lives are shitty. Are you saying that, back then, there was never a moment of joy, happiness or good cheer in a black person's life? Ever? They were so down trodden they never laughed, sang or had happy feels? Come on.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Are you trying to be obtuse?

He said black people were better off before the civil rights movements, and that he never saw any racism.

Phil Robertson On Growing Up in Pre-Civil-Rights-Era Louisiana
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Just going to note, in passing, that the blues literally originated in the Jim Crow-era South.

So, in fact, someone was singing the damn blues, even if he didn't see it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
He DID NOT.
