I mean, I cannot see how someone can believe that a rape joke causes rape (or contributes to rape culture) BUT playing a video game that involves murdering people does not have an cause someone to become violent (or contribute to a culture of violence).

It's probably more about rapists and assholes joking about rape than rape jokes making people rape, but it would still give an idea of what kind of person makes them in the first place.
