Secret 1 - Twitter, creators of media

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is several silhouettes of short-haired people talking with each other. There is a blue background and the white bird logo of the website "Twitter" behind them.]

I wish I could take creative works on their own value, without the creators at all!

Seriously, I think Twitter is the absolute WORST thing to happen to fandom. Ever. Tumblr runs a close second but there are more actors/writers/personalities on Twitter (the fans rule Tumblr).

Secret 2 - Superman, Batman, new superhero films

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Superman from the movie "Man of Steel" and Batman from, uh, one of the newer movies? They are images from promotional posters.]

I really can't stand how recent superhero adaptations are completely humourless. It feels like they're trying to "justify" adults watching an inherently ridiculous genre.

Not being allergic to bright primary colours in costume design would be nice too!

Secret 3 - Kili and Tauriel, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Tauriel, an elf with pointy ears, a dark green tunic, pale skin and long red hair looking over her shoulder, and Kili, a dwarf with light olive skin, a small mustache and beard and long wavy dark brown hair, wearing dark blue in his cape and tunic. They are characters from the movie "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug".]

Before the movie I had no particular opinion about Kili/Tauriel either way I wasn't ~enraged~ about it like some people were, but I also wasn't particularly excited. But damn, I ship it so hard now after the movie. I even thought parts of their story were ridiculously corny, but whatever. GIMME ALL THE FIC!

Secret 4 - The Hobbit (movies), the dwarves

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a drawing of the Company of Dwarves from "The Hobbit". They are all wearing robes and have long beards, except for one person who might be Bilbo?]

I'm normally pretty open to Alternate Universes, but browsing Hobbit movie fic, I despise every single Alternate Universe I find. I think I've figured out why.

It's because despite paragraph-long studio blurbs, the Hobbit dwarves (besides Thorin) are barely two-dimensional. Even Bilbo's a bit thin. Knowing where the dwarves are from and where they're going, you can find some depth in them from context. Without their history, they're nothing.

Unrelated!Kili/Fili is the new J2.

J2 = the ship name of Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles, the main actors from the TV series "Supernatural".

Secret 5 - A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a gray wolf from a sigil/coat of arms? from the House Stark from the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" and TV series adaptation "Game of Thrones".]

The Starks are my least favorite house. I just feel they have too much honor and not enough brains.

Most of my friends think I'm horrible for not wanting a Stark or Dany to get the throne, but I just really find the Starks bland and I super want Stannis to be king.

Secret 6 - Side characters, various media

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Seamus Finnigan, as portrayed by Devon Murray, from the "Harry Potter" movies; Grantaire, as portrayed by George Blagden, from the 2012 film "Les Misérables"; Mrs. Hudson, as portrayed by Una Stubbs, from the BBC TV series "Sherlock"; Barbie, from the CGI animated movie "Toy Story 3"; Inspector Lestrade, as portrayed by Rupert Graves, from the BBC TV series "Sherlock"; Jet from the animated TV series "Avatar: The Last Airbender"; Minerva McGonagall, as portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith, from the "Harry Potter" movies; Eames and Arthur from the movie "Inception", Eames is aiming a large gun at something off-screen; Effie Trinket, as portrayed by Elizabeth Banks, wearing her butterfly dress from the "Hunger Games" movie adaptations; Johanna Mason, as portrayed by Jena Malone, from the "Hunger Games" movie adaptations; Seneca Crane, head gamemaker, and Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor of District 12, from "The Hunger Games"; and Adrian Andrews from the "Ace Attorney" videogames.]

I have a painful addiction to side characters, to the point where I really don't care about the heroes all that much. [picture of Seneca Crane and Haymitch Abernathy] Bonus Secret: I totally ship it.
Edited (Thank you very much, anon and jain!) 2013-12-28 23:49 (UTC)

Secret 7 - Orlando Bloom, Legolas, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Legolas, as portrayed by Orlando Bloom. He is an elf with pale skin, long blond hair pulled back in a half-ponytail, blue eyes, wearing a silver armor and holding a bow and arrow, ready to shoot.]

I like his new contacts. I mean they look kind of freaky, but I think it's cool. And I kind of love how bitchy he is being in Desolation of Smaug. Unfortunately most people seem to disagree.

And I realize that Orlando Bloom isn't the strongest actor, but seeing people hating on him still makes me really sad. Legolas/Orlando Bloom is too close to my heart not to. [sad face emoticon.] I just really love him.

Secret 8 - Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., femslash

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Jemma Simmons, as portrayed by Elizabeth Henstridge, and Skye, as portrayed by Chloe Bennet, from the TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Jemma Simmons has light skin and long brown hair. She is wearing a dark gray suit. Skye has olive skin and long wavy brown hair. She is wearing a dark jacket. They are looking together at a computer screen. Leo Fitz, as portrayed by Ian De Caestecker, is sitting between them, but there is a red heart symbol over his face.]

Part of me is enjoying how popular "Skimmons" is getting because almost none of my femslash ships get this much attention, but I also kind of wish it wasn't so big, and that the actresses weren't involved. They seem to be enjoying the idea but I'm not used to my non-canon ships getting this big.

(I didn't slap the stupid heart on this picture by the way.)

Secret 9 - Uncle Tungsten: Memories of a chemical boyhood (book) by Oliver Sacks

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the book "Uncle Tungsten: Memories of a chemical boyhood" by "Oliver Sacks". It has the blurbs "author of The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat", "Intellectually entrancing and utterly winning." --The Globe and Mail, "Editors' Choice, New York Times Book Review", "Bestseller". It has the sepia-toned photograph of a young boy with light skin and short dark hair looking seriously off-screen and wearing a coat.]

Forget Dr. House! THIS is who I want for MY doctor! This is a secret because I am so neuro-typical it's not even funny. HIS BEDSIDE MANNER THO

Secret 10 - Hetalia: Axis Powers (manga, anime)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a fanart of Russia and America? From the manga/anime series "Hetalia: Axis Powers". America, a man with light skin, short blond hair, wearing eyeglasses, a pink shirt and a red tie gave a pink heart with a red heart on it to Russia, a taller man with light skin, short grayish brown hair and wearing a blue sweatshirt and a cream-colored scarf. The fanart is credited to "hinoneko".]

I find it HILARIOUS when American fans get offended by the existence of this ship. Actually, I find it hilarious in general when people in this fandom drag nationalism into their shipping wars. It's like patriotic icing on top of the wank cake.

Secret 11 - Marvin Redpost: Kidnapped at Birth? (book)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the book "Marvin Redpost: Kidnapped at Birth?" by Louis Sachar. It shows the painting of a red-headed boy with pale skin wearing a white-collared blue sweatshirt? and a huge purple, bejeweled crown while standing on a bedroom of someone who has many books and is very into football. He is looking at his crown kind of nervously or displeased.]

When I read this as a kid, I was annoyed by the way he "gave up" just because he didn't have an accent. Even then, I knew accents were nurture, not nature.

I've realized by now that it was just a subconscious excuse to go back to the family that he knew and loved. So that isn't the secret. The secret is that I still wish he would have stayed for the last test and found out for sure.

And because we don't know, a part of me still thinks he really was the prince.
