Eh, most of the people I've seen offended by Rus/America are actually more offended by the fact that a lot of those shippers use the actual wars caused by the Cold War to say "That was totes sexual tension!" and...honestly? I can see where they were coming from.

In fairness, this was what it was like back when I was in the fandom a year or two ago, so that might have changed.

SA

Also, more for personal amusement than anything, the "Oh noes! How dar u ship that!" against US/Can was "It's incest!" [..and yeah, they were sorta right depending on how you looked at things.]

Oh, I was under the impression that people were against the ship because of the Cold War itself, not because shippers justified it as sexual tension. That is.... certainly different.

I recall seeing Hetalia fans on deviantart going: "I was in history class today, and my prof said something about France attacking Prussia from behind, lolololol" or something like that and I didn't look any further into the fandom

Naw, that kind of hate was pretty much reserved for USUK. Sadly, however, that type of reasoning wasn't just used for Rus/US - I've seen it for Vietnam/US [specifically with the Vietnam War] which skeeved the hell out of me.

That kind of reaction ["LOL, I HEARD THIS IN HISTORY AND IT MADE ME THINK...!"] is one of those things that's not too hard to avoid if you're in the sane corners of the fandom, it's just finding those corners can be a little dicey on tumblr from what I've heard/seen.
