Late as late can be, but tbh the whole "nationalism gets involved!" thing isn't all that common, tbh [at least, I've never seen it and I've been in the fandom for years.] What does usually get people's back up is that a lot of shippers tend to go "The Cold War [and all the wars tied in with it] is proof of their sexual tension!"

...And yeah. That happens with other ships - just usually ones that aren't as big, and no where near the same level as they do with this one.
