This is me too. I loved the first anime and really enjoyed the manga, but I never made it through many episodes of Brotherhood before quitting.

I enjoyed the darker tone and more introspective nature of the first anime, and I liked the broader story, wider world-building, and new characters in the manga. Brotherhood just felt rushed and shallower to me somehow; it's hard to describe...like Hughes death, in the first anime I literally cried the first three times I watched it, and it was upsetting in the manga, but it just didn't have any emotional impact on me in Brotherhood.

THIS. I couldn't finish Brotherhood because I got to scenes like Hughes' death and the whole part with Nina and Alexander and they just did absolutely nothing for me in Brotherhood, whereas in the original anime they made me outright sob. There was zero emotional impact there for me.

IMO they kind of rushed the first season of Brotherhood because it was a rehash of the 2003 anime, after you get past that the pacing gets a lot better.
