Yeah, but "dog" is an old, very common slang term to refer to an ugly woman. It's got nothing to do with race. I'm white and I've been called a dog plenty of times - and I"ve called other (white) women dogs in the past too. Not proud of it but it's true. It's not at all a racial thing. I'm about Martin Freeman's age, and the slang term was old and common even when I was young.

It is obviously sarcastic in usage here. Might be rude, might be unfunny, certainly can be misinterpreted out of context -- but he was NOT insulting her, nor was he saying anything racist. He was saying "oh her, she's so ugly" in a way that makes it clear that he's saying the opposite of the truth.

Not a huge fan of his, but I'm even less a fan of absurdly literal-minded people getting their self-righteous buzz on by blowing trivial shit way out of proportion.
