Is coulson dead in movieverse or not? Cause he seemed pretty dead to me in the movie. :s

Yes yes I'm beating the dead agent because I don't know. I mean granted I barely noticed him in my first viewing.

it's implied to the audience that he isn't

He was stabbed by Loki, but it wasn't actually shown if he died. I think it was shown that he passed out at least. I think the TV series is a continuation of the movieverse? I don't watch it though, so I'm not sure about that

Yeah I have no interest in the tv and don't normally consider the part of movieverse because they tend to be handled by different script writers and the like?

Like I'm pretty sure he's dead and I know fandom ignores that (as I do with my faves) but it's the one bit where so many seem so certain he lives that I'm ????

At least I know chuck in pacific rim is dead dead >_>;

iirc, Joss Whedon is involved with both the movies and the series, so they're probably more consistent with each other?

Good to hear that at least!

yeah, the TV series is considered a continuation of the movie and in the same universe as Thor 2 and presumably all the other movies too

the TV series keeps alluding that something weird happened when Coulson died/revived/survived (and it's a SHIELD secret even to low-level agents that he survived), but we haven't seen yet just what exactly happened

Oh that's a shame. If only cause I don't really watch tv and enjoy how contained movies are ;-;

if it's any consolation there has been very little actual crossover with the movies so far

like, they allude to things that happened in the movies in random asides, but the events of the movies don't really have an impact on the series beyond Coulson's maybe-not-death and, for example, the fact that now Earth knows there are aliens and SHIELD has to do damage control on leftover alien technology and random super-powered/genetically-engineered people

it's a very "B-side" / "the lives of random background characters" kind of thing

That's kinda cute! Maybe if it gets good ratings and isn't too long I can check it out on a long weekend.

If it makes you feel better, a lot of people are just ignoring the show and doing their fandom things just based on the movies. With the exception of some Clint/Coulson stories, AoS has very little impact on the fandom/characters/anything.

oh good at least I won't be blindsided. I mostly stick to the Iron Man side of things anyway so I imagine I wouldn't notice anything.

if the info helps you plan:

there are only 10 episodes aired so far, out of a season of 22, and episode 11 airs on january 7

even at its lowest ratings aren't that bad (6 million viewers on USA), although they never got as high as the pilot again (12 million viewers!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agents_of_SHIELD#Ratings

if the show doesn't screw up it might even get another season :V

Agents of SHIELD officially takes place within the same canon as the MCU movies, so Coulson appears to be alive* in the movieverse.

*The TV series has been hinting heavily that there's something odd about his miraculous recovery, which has a lot of fans speculating that he's a Life Model Decoy or something along those lines.

In movies with superheroes, any character pronounced dead is only actually dead about half the time. In the Avengers, we didn't see Coulson's body, or hear anything about a funeral - hell, I'm pretty sure no one actually confirms "he's dead," in the movie. Nick Fury implies it with the cards, but even that's debunked because Fury lied.
