Well, I'm a Christian, and I have a "Live and let live" belief on this matter.

I am happy to let people believe God is totally unknowable and unprovable. I am happy to let people believe there is no God. What gets me unhappy is when those people start telling me I am foolish and an idiot for believing in God.

I hate Dawkins because he's exactly that sort of atheist, the sort who says people are stupid for believing in a religion and supernatural powers.

How far do you apply this.

Do you think it's unfair when correct people when they claim the world is flat? After all, for your average person this factoid personally has almost no relevance to their life. Is it better to leave them with this belief than to be so awful as to point out it's incorrect?

That's provable fact, not a belief.

Epistemological solipsism says you're wrong.

Epistemological solipsism must never have flown around the wrold, or seen photos of the planet taken from the moon, or even just orbit.

Unless Epistemological solipsism is the belief that anything that goes against their beliefs is wrong, no matter what.

Oh, and since I looked it up, then Epistemological solipsism should also include that you cannot prove anything outside your own mind exists, so you cannot prove that I exist, or that my belief in God exists.

I, uh...

and?

The argument you were making was flawed for exactly that reason?

You're not very good at arguing are you

I think it takes a careful approach when one is evangelising. There are times when people will be receptive to talk about God, and times when they will not. I often do not believe Fandom is the time or place for it.

Also, the world being flat or round is not a fair equivalent. It is provable that it is round - maybe not easily provable if you can't hop a plane or go into space, but still. The existence of God is so unprovable we don't even have a chance to prove He's there, we either have faith that He is, or we don't.

I have to ask you though, is the fact that some people believe in an unprovable divine figure so awful for you that you have to run the risk of causing fights by telling them they are "incorrect"?

I also believe approaching the issue from a POV of "You're wrong and I'm going to prove you're wrong!" is the wrong way of doing it.

It's simplisitc but lets go with Russels teapot then?

And yes, I hold the truth as being central to almost everything I do, outside a very small number of necessary white lies.

I am fine with you believing in a teapot in space. I believe in an invisible pink unicorn too. I also don't think the Invisible Pink Unicorn negates my belief in a Creator Deity.

"I think it takes a careful approach when one is evangelising."

The good book says to let your life preach. Something to think about, no?

I am not sure how well my life preaches. I try to be a good person, and part of that is that I don't want to shove my beliefs in people's faces where it is unwanted, because I think that upsets people.

So I hope people think I'm an okay person and that is just one reason why I am okay.
