"The "I'm an atheist, but..." crowd annoys me for similar reasons. You know, the ones who go around preaching about how any atheist that dares to mention that there is no proof that god exists, or even just conducts themselves as though they personally don't believe that god exists, is somehow "making the rest of us look bad." I just... How is saying things an atheist would say making us "look bad?" WTF do non-atheists think we do?"

They think we wear fedoras and pose for photos with butterknives and super-soakers while calling everyone else sheeple. Thank reddit for that.

But damn I agree with you so hard on this. The assumption that atheists discussing god and proof and such is automatically insulting to religious people and that even as an atheist you shouldn't mention it is so annoying. I feel like people who add "but..." to their atheism are just...very concerned with the internet? Yet don't realize that... that's all there really is to bad atheists? It's just the whole "you can't really oppress the majority" type of things; if you mention you don't believe in god and someone gets on your case about it, it's sort of pointless because atheists do not have any sort of power over anything. Merely saying "I don't believe in god because such and such" ISNT an attack on those who do believe.

...Fedora/butterknife/super-soaker dress-up time actually sounds kind of fun. And like there would be alcohol involved. But I refuse to say "sheeple" because it's a favorite word of those fuckers who make YouTube videos where they try to prove that Bill O'Reilly has a lizard tongue or some shit.

But yeah, that's it exactly! I mean, like I've said before, religious people can talk about their beliefs as absolute fact, and no one bats an eyelash. Even all but the most hardline people of other religions hold it up as something that is immune from criticism, with a weird undertone of "well, at least they have a religion!" Apparently, you can present anything you want as the truth, as long as it isn't the thing that doesn't make any extraordinary claims. I... What?
