I don't think it's unusual to profess your love for things you can only stand to experience once. It doesn't make that experience any less real or life-changing, which is why you now love the thing.

This! Being a fan doesn't mean you have to endlessly re-experience every moment of whatever it is you like.

I agree, and thinking about it there are definitely a lot of series I love that I can't stand watching certain episodes, arcs, or even practically whole seasons.

Utena is understandable because it is rough, I recently rewatched it beginning to end but it had been YEEAARRRS since I had seen it so I was able to deal, even going through what I didn't like.

A lot of my all time favorites have bad periods, Buffy is the one that came to mind first. I love love love that series but I rarely watch seasons 6 and 7 outside of specific episodes.

I love Spec Ops The Line! I was replaying it once. I got to Chapter 8: The Gate. I turned it off and put it away.

Utena Tenjou goes to Ohtori Academy. They pretty much have the worst principle ever.

Fun fact 1: Utena is 14!
Fun fact 2: the girl that's not Utena is his sister!
Fun fact 3: That picture will stop being quite so cute looking if you watch the show.

Secret 3 - Revolutionary Girl Utena (anime)

[Picture is a screen-capture from the anime "Revolutionary Girl Utena"? It shows someone leaning into a red sports car in front a large building with columns and arches.]

I can't watch this show past episode 30. Because I don't want to see Utena suffer and go through all this shit again.

Secret because: I tell people it's my favorite anime.
bur: Captain America being all Sleeping Beauty. (Cap asleep)

But watching Utena suffer is the best part!

I think for some works of art/media, one of the biggest compliments can be "That was amazing and beautiful and wrenching and I never want to see it again."
