Secret 6 - Sleepy Hollow (2013 TV series), shipping, character bashing

I recently read a secret that Katrina Crane had a lot of backlash in the Sleepy Hollow fandom. I'm kinda shocked that, it is the case. But I completely agree with the Original Poster, that the backlash is something rather unreasonable and for a ridiculous reason the age old annoyance I have against some shippers.

I am a hopeless romantic and so I find Katrina's devotion to Ichabod even in death is one of the strongest storylines in the show. So I do believe even if you do ship Abbie/Ichabod, you should give the woman some respect. I mean, she's suffering and she's still doing all she can to help her husband in his quest to save humanity.

Side note, I am also an Abbie/Ichabod shipper, but I have always been the type to "double ship" characters if the chemistry is plenty obvious between ships. And I cannot help but go AWWW over these two.

I'm not particularly into Katrina/Ichabod but I certainly don't hate Katrina either. Or her relationship with Ichabod. If those two do it for you: ENJOY.

Now don't get me wrong, if someone dislikes their storyline, the way it's written, or the way she's written, I respect that too, but yes, it can suck when you like a character or pairing and no one else is feeling the love. (However, you'll always have canon? It is FANTASTIC loving canon pairings.)

I can't imagine Abbie/Ichabod ever working as is; there would have to be some pretty significant changes before he would be ready for a relationship with anyone other than Katrina. That said, I still like the idea of Abbie/Ichabod happening one day, if things were different, and I'm okay with it not being canon or even realistic.

I don't actually get extreme Katrina hate or extreme Katrina love. Right now she's just kind of an exposition fairy who shows up to say important things in a really breathy voice.

I get the hate because shippers are in die for our ship mode which is nothing new. I just don't get the love. Her story revolves around Ichabod and she doesn't have much that doesn't revolve around him. She's just there for exposition and angst but not much else. Until we see more of her, I'm not really interested.

Ah no I know WHY people hate her. I just don't think it's a very good reason because die for our ship is of course silly. But yeah all the love bewilders me. She's just not much of a character as of yet.

Ah, my apologies. The die for their ship thing is pretty obvious and I guess I sort of misunderstood you. Of course it is never a good reason. Like the anon below said, I think some of the love may be because of a backlash against the hate.

I don't get the hate at all, and Sleepy Hollow is so awesome, it makes me sad (and mad) that it exists. She hasn't had the most *interesting* of stories so far (they're just starting to flesh her out a bit) but she's done nothing/is nothing to *hate* on.

Besides, Ichabod loves her, she loves him, he's not gonna sleep with Abbie. I love this show and fandom, but frankly - i'm into the gen fic only.

Okay, I'm not in this fandom so I hope I don't sound too out of place but... this lady is the guys wife and people hate her for getting away with another ship? I understand how him having a wife would kinda screw up the other ship and cause frustration, but that is a pretty shallow reason to hate her since the character has done nothing wrong.

The fun thing about shipping is that you can create AU or different scenarios instead of hating on stuff that gets in the way of canon status. Lots of ships are not meant to be canon, but that doesn't mean you can't have your fun without having to hate anyone.

Katrina is his wife, but shes also...in purgatory?? Or maybe dead?? Its anomalous mostly she just shows up in dreams bein cryptic, so think the idea is "lady u are dead and also shady let him move on"

She probably really is dead though. I mean can you see her being brought back into modern day too along with Ichabod? How would that happen? It would completely rearrange the dynamics of the show.

I'm actually hoping if she gets out of Purgatory she gets to go back to her own timeline and is given a real chance to raise their son. But even so she would have lived and died before Ichabod reawoke in Sleepy Hollow.

I'm pretty sure her being in purgatory or being 'mostly' dead doesn't mean he would be cheating if he decided to get with Abbie. Or do you think people should be faithful AFTER death?

Because seriously, she's not alive. I like her a ton and would love her to be reunited with him somehow, but for right now she is as good as dead as far as wedding vows go.

Wasn't she trapped then when she was alive? Considering this show is about undead horsemen coming back to life, as well as previously dead patriots, I'm reallyyyy doubtful that Katarina can't/won't come back.

And to Ichabod, it's pretty recent. He wasn't aware of those few hundred years, so yes, he's going to still love his wife. And yes, it'd be pretty shitty of him to go, "Welp, guess I'll bang this chick now, ahhhh yeahhhh!"

Add in that Ichabbie shippers are just plain hypocrites as well as obnoxious, I just can't get onboard with that.

Okay, look, people are ALLOWED to ship things even if the ship isn't a) ever going to happen or b) probably not going to happen for a while or even c)no even plausible. Just because YOU don't like the ship doesn't mean everyone that ships it a) thinks Ichabod should suddenly forget about Katarina and/or b) hates Katarina.

Liking one dynamic (especially a dynamic which we SEE on screen more) over another doesn't make a person a hypocrite. And insisting on calling the Ichabbie shippers is just petty on your part and makes it clear that you're dismissing them as silly fangirls (seriously who even uses smush names anymore, I sure as hell haven't seen any shipper on my dashboard use it and I'm even talking about the under 18s).

Nothing is simply black and white. You are allowed to dislike the ship, that doesn't mean people that do ship it are somehow bad people. Get over your bad self.
