One of the purposes of fiction is to offer truths about life and inspiration for the future. There's nothing wrong with drawing a hopeful and meaningful message from a TV series and applying it to your own life. Regardless, I wish you better times ahead.

You know why people love fictional stories? Because they can relate to characters, feel less alone in the universe, learn from them. There is nothing wrong with modeling a part of your life after a fictional character that inspired you. It is actually quite normal, and I think all storytellers hope to make that kind of impact.

op, i sometimes categorize my life in the context of my desktop wallpaper. "going through shitty times - better run ccleaner & change my desktop real quick!!"

but for real, tho, i always thought doctor who seemed like the best show to associate with change, what with the regeneration theme and everything. it invites the association.

First, my stupid comment is oh, secret #11 for Doctor 11!

Anyways, inspiration comes any kind of source. Doesn't matter if its well written drama or a badly acted show. Something inspired you to change you for the better. That's the important thing.

...I'm ashamed of the fact that I didn't see it until this comment. Brilliant.

I love this secret. OP, as someone who already started clean slate once, and is considering doing it again: I wish you luck. It can be one of the best, liberating things you can do.

Secret 11 - Doctor Who (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-03 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Amy Pond, as portrayed by Karen Gillan, and the Eleventh Doctor, as portrayed by Matt Smith, from the TV series "Doctor Who". Amy Pond is a young woman with light skin and long red hair. The Doctor has light skin and short dark hair. He is wearing a suit, while she appears to be wearing a suit jacket of sorts? They are smiling at each other. Behind them is a wall covered by post-it notes.]

During Eleven's run I've gone through some awful life events - academic failures, sick parents, the death of multiple family members, mental illness - and at the end of the Christmas Special I realized that this is my chance to end that chapter of my life and start over. I can start 2014 as a new person and live with all of the past year's stress and grief behind me.

Eleven's death allowed me to reevaluate my life.

This is a secret because A. I categorize my life in the context of a TV show and that is sad, and B. I shouldn't need a poorly written melodrama to tell me to pick myself up and live my life.

You're definitely not the only one Dr. Who has given hope to for getting through really bad times. :)
