Sounds like my fandom. At first it was all, "oh, this really well known writer wants to be friends with me! Yay!" Then it became really clear that she was incredibly self-righteous and really into trying to drive people out of fandom unless they preferred her exact ships and her exact entries in the series. Happens a lot in small fandoms, I guess.

Whoa, that sounds like my fandom too, although in my experience, the fandom was for a specific pairing.

I remember being introduced to a popular writer in the fandom. Initially we got along until they stopped shipping that pairing. Coincidentally, other people stopped shipping it as well. It might have been possible that this writer influenced them. It definitely divided the fandom and drove some of us away.

That writer ignored me, even though I didn't mention that I didn't ship their new ship.

As for the other people who stopped, they began to ignore me as well. I tried to talk about other things, but the conversations between us were really awkward. The signs were obvious - they lost interest. Gradually we drifted apart.

/well that was longer than expected, heh
