Re: PS3 and TV Help?
(Anonymous) 2014-01-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)I have an old tv too (tube tv) and I connect the PS3 with the cinch/RCA cable (the "red-white-yellow" cable) that was also included (because not everyone has a flat screen tv and therewith HDMI ports - Sony isn't totally stupid).
If your tv doesn't have these three ports (some smaller tvs don't have it) you can buy an adapter for the cinch cable - most common is the adapter with scart on the other side. Most (older) tvs have one or more scart ports (HDMI is virtually the "new scart" so the new flat screen tvs have normally no scart ports anymore but therefor HDMI ports).
Re: PS3 and TV Help?
And as I said before, it looks like ass. Some games just will not be playable on it. I used a CRT for years with my 360 and later my PS3 and I finally gave up and bought a flatscreen and never looked back. Its only real flaw is that PS2 games don't look very good on it sometimes.
Re: PS3 and TV Help?
(Anonymous) 2014-01-03 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)I'm from a different country and I tried to find the right English terms for all the cables.
Never had a problem with any game on my old tv...and I don't have the money to buy a flat screen tv. And to be honest I don't plan to buy a new tv when my old one works perfectly fine (for 15 years and still going strong).
Re: PS3 and TV Help?
But a new TV is probably something I'll save up for anyway. If we were to get a PS3, I'd want something that would do FFXIII justice.
Re: PS3 and TV Help?
I was on a 19-inch standard-def TV that had been just fine for my purposes, up until FFXII came out, and my girlfriend and I couldn't read the text on the menus. But I happened to spot a Black Friday deal at the store where I worked at the time, and used my employee discount on top of that, and got I think a 25-inch SDTV for like $150. And FFXII was BEAUTIFUL.
And then FFXIII came out and once again we couldn't read the menus. :P And then one day we were in our favored thrift store, and spotted this GIANT old HDTV. Like we looked up the model number and found out it originally cost $4000 when it was new... which was like ten years ago. But it was big and HD and cost $100, so we got it. And then FFXIII was BEAUTIFUL. (Though I still don't care for the game itself, it's visually pretty.)
At this point I'm sort of afraid of getting another FF game for fear that I'll need yet another larger TV.
Re: PS3 and TV Help?
I think my current TV (which I've had since about high school, iirc) is a bit bigger than your 19-inch, which is probably why I haven't had trouble with FFXII. But I'll remember to go as big as I can reasonably afford if/when I get a PS3.
