Nooooooo but a lot of ex-members tried to use (non-porn) SF to shore up their extremely vehement atheism. I did too, for a little while. It wasn't a pretty picture. :-(

I saw your message below that you've gone to bed, so I do hope you see this. I am an atheist and most of us are normal, moral people. There are extremists however, like there are in any group. If people in this church are become extreme and possibly violent, I think that's more a reaction to the strict rules this 'religion' (I'm sorry, just based on what you've told us, I agree with the other anon that it sounds more like a cult). It's not the fault of science fiction books.

Okay, OP, you'll probably not want to hear this, but atheism isn't a "bad path." I mean, I understand if you still want the community and belonging that comes with being part of your semi-cult (been there) but a more objective and logical view of the world isn't a bad thing.

I would, however, recommend you read some actual atheist literature instead of Fanfic in order to further analyze if you agree with atheist tenants.
