I've never really liked this argument because it pretty much overlooks all the contributions that women have made to SF writing, and SF fandom, and SF culture. But as much as I dislike it, it probably is true at least for some people, unfortunately. There's probably other elements to it for some but yeah, for an uncomfortably large group of people, I guess it does boil down to that.

And I highly support your proposed remedy of just ignoring those people.

I agree. But I think it's a case of the old school angry white male writers who are overlooking the contributions women have made --and are still making!-- to SF writing, fandom and culture. I'm definitely not arguing that SF was all male back in the day, just that the people complaining about the evolution of SF are.

Either way, those guys are assholes and don't deserve to have their opinions taken to heart by anyone with sense.
