I'm only loosely familiar and can't go into much additional detail, but there's a D&D setting called Spelljammer which essentially takes traditional sci-fi tropes and replaces the science with magic.

The end result is a universe which has elves, dwarves, gnomes, beholders, etc. piloting ships (which are as likely to resemble marine life or sailing ships as traditional spacecraft) from planet to planet through the phlogiston.

I've never played D&D before, but thanks for the info :) It sounds interesting.
