Character flaws have become cliches to me. Oh look, this character can't think before he acts. That one hides her tender feelings behind huffiness and a short temper. That one over there pushes everyone away from him because he's afraid of betrayal. And so on and so forth. Pick any flaw, and chances are I feel like I've seen it a million times before. Flaws exist to make characters interesting, but the ones I see are so overused that they're not interesting anymore, just annoying.

If most characters were perfect, maybe I'd think perfection was annoyingly overdone and seek out the ones that had flaws. But right now, that one perfect character in a series is the breath of fresh air that it doesn't feel like they were trying too hard to make INTERESTING AND REALISTIC!!!1

I realize perfection is also a cliche, and to many fans the most annoying one, but I just feel differently. My feelings don't hold much logic, but that's why it's a secret. :)

I hear (see?) where you're coming from - fiction should be fiction. Characters ought to be larger than life.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.

It sounds more like an irritation with bad writers trying to make characters INTERESTING!!! and stuff. Like, yeah -- character A never trusts people because someone betrayed them in the past.

It's like... it's more reducing a person into quirks, rather than fleshing out an actual personality. People don't always act a set way. They are infinitely more complex than one or two personality traits (flaws).

I don't really care for Nia, but I can see why you'd get tired of everything like that D:
