2- No, not at all. I thought it was a very strong chapter, but I didn't feel much during it. I thought DH had several more impactful chapters.

16. Y-You hate Dumbledore!?

Looots of people hate Dumbledore. He's two-faced, manipulative, uncaring, etc. The problem to me seems to be that the character is presented as a genuinely good person, but the plot demands that this is sometimes spoken of rather than actually presented in canon.

I like him anyway, but I see where people come from.

16- I think this would be less of an issue if the Dumbledore haters weren't all over Snape as pure hearted and stuff. Most of them seem to hate Dumbledore not because of the Harry situation (which btw- Dumbledore was quite sure Harry would not die), but because he was omgmean to Snape. Not minding that Dumbledore saved him from a life in Azkaban. Dumbledore was able to get over his unrequited love and love and live on, even if it did haunt him. Snape turned into a vindictive and cruel man because of his and took it out on the woman he supposedly loved so deeply's son and all of his schoolmates. It just seems a big double standard to me.

But uncaring? He loved Harry so deeply...

I also don't quite understand the last sentence? Dumbledore is written as purely benevolent in the first six books, and it would be difficult to interp his actions as anything but without the background in DH. She doesn't just tell us there, she shows it. In book seven we are to "question" Dumbledore, but she presents his good side just as well. And these aren't just bits of narration about Dumbledore being a good person or Harry's thoughts enforcing it- they're dialogue and scenes and all the like that show it. I can't actually think of any times when we're told he's a good person but not shown it.

Snape and Dumbledore are an awesome duo of Pretty Screwed Up. They supported each other in spite of having very good reasons not to, and it all becomes so much less fun if you decide one is PURE GOOD vs the other being MEEEEEN. :(

Uncaring seems to come from the way Dumbledore used Harry as a tool. But again, I like screwy fictional relationships, and it's more interesting with Dumbledore having to use someone he genuinely loved.

As for explaining the last sentence, yes Dumbledore is shown to be good, but then there are little things ... aargh, I think it'd be easier to point to the fic that made me realise why people dislike him:

At the Lord's Door

This is an extreme example, but I tend to find similar sentiments coming through in other fics. I prefer to chalk those points up to plotting that could have been done better, and enjoy my grey-toned-but-good-guy Dumbledore, as JK wanted to present in canon.
