And some of us were raised on the original books.

As soon as I was old enough to read, my parents bought me a nice copy of the book. I now have several different copies of the book, pop up editions, but my favorite is a print from Borders that includes all 14 of the original books and is leather bound with gilded edges.

One of my earliest memories is of my dad reading these books to me (along with the Heinlein juveniles). I learned to read on these books. I'm always sad that we've never gotten an adaption that actually followed the book or an adaption of the later books (although Return to Oz wasn't bad even though it combined two of the books).

Same, considering they're releasing another sequel that looks like it has NOTHING to do with the books. I'm a huge, huge fan. I think one of my favorite adaptations was the animated series on HBO in the early 90s (it was a Japanese dub). It followed the closest to the book.

I liked Return to Oz, even if gave me nightmares when I was it the first time (I think I was 4 or 5)

Since you're a fan, have you read the Marvel comics? They're adapting all of the books and have finished the first 5.

I seem to recall there is an animated movie that follows the book pretty well.

No, I didn't know about the comics. I'm not usually a huge graphic novel fan, but I may have to check that out.

There's several animated movies, I have a couple on VHS that we taped off TV.

I'm not a big graphic novel fan but these books have super whimsical art and I don't even really read them so much as look at the pretty pictures.

Hmmm. I may need to spend some Christmas money from relatives on these.
