I feel you. When I realize I've been browsing a 16 year old persons Tumblr, I feel odd. Like, I get that I shouldn't, but the age gap seems so prevalent now that I'm in my mid twenties.

When I was a kid, I didn't think much about me being 15 and reading 18+ fic (where I was disclosed not too), but now on the other side, I feel like there should be some better divider. On Tumblr everything is a mishmash and it's hard to draw lines if there need to be some on part of accountability (which hardly seems to exist now and days).

See when I was younger i would have felt it was unfair that I couldn't read adult fic. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind about how the creators felt or I probably would have brushed it off.

But now that I'm older I don't want to know if younger people are reading it and I especially do not want to interract with them over it.

(I had to completely shut down a RP I was doing once because 1) they wanted to make it sexual and that's not my thing in pokemon and 2) I discovered they were 14. I have siblings that age, no)

I felt it was unfair too, that's why I didn't think much about clicking the "I am over the age of 18" buttons. Now, I understand their pain.

Me either. Nor do I want to see their NC17 artwork or fic.

(Sorry you had to shut down your RP.)

(Thanks. I'm not broken up about it, mostly just creeped out whenever I remember it. *remembered shudder*)

heh, and this is why I no longer beta porn unless I know the person IRL.

I've recently started a new tumblr and I keep searching out people to follow/be friends with and am constantly disappointed and a little weirded out when I find out they're 15 or 16 or something. So awkward.

It really is. It sucks on the other side of the age gap. It feels weird and like I need to hide the internet, haha.

I'm in my forties and I absolutely hate it when discussions of age come up.

It's way too easy to write each other off because we're "too old" or "too young".

I really prefer not to know, in most cases.

True. People can be written off because of age, which isn't always fair (especially if you're over 18).

I like to know, just so I know I won't have parents telling me I corrupted their kids or something. Just to be on the safe side.

I'm in my forties too. There seem so few of us about, but it's hard to tell.

I love being in fandoms on tumblr, but I've had people message me and ask how old I was and then tell me outright I was 'sad' for being on tumblr at my age, and if they were still there past their teens, they'd feel they were a failure.

The funny thing was, they genuinely didn't think they were being rude or ignorant (a lot of the best fan artists and writers are on the older side but I don't these these teenagers have cottoned on).

I found it amusing. But I definitely keep my age quiet. It freaks out the young'uns.

I did have a wobbly moment a few years ago about one girl I knew was underage (15) reading my explicit fics. I decided in the end it's really not my problem if I give clear warnings and put that stuff behind cuts. I do try to be gentle and answer comments helpfully from those readers who seem on the young side.

I'd rather they get a half-accurate account of sex, anyway. If they're going to read erotic fanfic, better they go for those written by mature people who've actually had sex a few times.
