That's usually the tradeoff, anon. To be frank, it's like this across the board with overachievers; there are only so many hours in a day, and this personality type makes people extremely prone to compartmentalizing "work life" and "home life" in such a way that the two never intersect.

If your position allows it, you could attempt to mix business with pleasure and make office friends into personal friends. If it really is as demanding as you make it out to be, that might really be the only way you're going to work in a social life.

I would urge extreme caution in making office friends personal friends, especially if OP is in a position of authority.

/advice from person who has been burned badly in that regard
