mostly that the movie was trying a bit too hard to pair them up and make sure the audience knew they where endgame

Huh, really? I read their relationship as completely platonic the whole movie and found it really weird when suddenly it was supposed to be ~obvious~ that Kristoff loved her. But then again I bought Hans hook, line and sinker, so maybe I just wasn't primed to pick up on any actual romantic hints between Kristoff and Anna.

I thought Anna was going to marry Hans and that Anna was going to introduce Kristoff to Elsa and they'd hit it off over mutual love of snow.

Well, I already knew they where endgame and about Hans plot twist, so it didn't come off as a surprise to me. But there was also the banter during the wolf-chase (and Kristoff calling Anna on getting engaged with a guy after one day of meeting him. just like Elsa did), and the trolls scene (mama troll saying Anna was perfect for Kristoff, while he says the equivalent to "she's not my girlfriend/she's engaged!").

Kristoff needed more solo scenes, Imo.

Calling out somebody getting engaged to someone they just met is a reasonable thing for anyone to say, whether they have a crush on the person themselves or not. And I honestly thought the whole point of the troll song was that Kristoff's "love experts" were really just hilariously enthusiastic about pairing Kristoff off with anybody at all. (I mean, they knew absolutely nothing about Anna. A troll's word that they're perfect for each other at that point means even less than Anna and Hans thinking they're perfect for each other - at least the latter had spent a night talking first.)

In retrospect the fact Kristoff only said "She's engaged to another man!" and not "What, no, where is this coming from" is obviously meant to set it up, but at the time I just took it as him emphasizing that point because it was a stronger objection - "Okay, I know you and I know there's no hope I can convince you we just don't think of each other that way, but surely you'll cut it out if I point out she's engaged to someone else, right?"

Yeah, I'm not gonna disagree with that. Anna was rushing into things with the engagement, and it shows how pampered she was. And... I actually payed half-mind to the troll song coughcoughcough. Looking back at it, Kristoff being raised by trolls and the trolls saying that Anna was perfect for him could also mean that "Hey! They are the sames species! Perfect for each other!", which actually makes it weirdly hilarious to me.

I do still think they rushed on some things, and some other needed a bit more showing.

I thought the Kristoff romance was really obvious, but that also helped me to "not buy" Hans. I figured there were two ways the Hans plot could go, either he'd end up with Elsa instead, or he'd end up being evil. At a certain point him ending up with Elsa didn't seem plausible so there had to be something about him that was wrong because Anna wouldn't ditch him if he was this incredible nice guy.

Like for the first few minutes maybe I though Kristoff and Anna were platonic, but they were spending way too much of the movie on the two of them bonding for it to NOT be a romance. Especially when we're talking about a Disney movie where you typically don't see a lot of strong bonds between men and women being explored outside of romance or family.

Maybe it was just my wishful thinking; I enjoy platonic relationships a lot more than romance so while it was an unusual amount of male/female bonding for being platonic, I just thought "Oh, that's cool!", not "Oh, so it's not platonic."

I figured Anna was just going to realize marrying right away was a bit rash and they'd end with deciding to take it slower or something. Since I hoped that the "act of true love" would be something between the sisters as soon as that came up, I immediately concocted the theory that Anna would reach Hans but the kiss just wouldn't do anything, and that would cause her to realize it's not actually true love when you barely know each other, and that the greatest love she feels is actually for her sister. God, I feel gullible typing all this.

Don't feel naive, I think you were just taking the movie where you'd like it to go, which is pretty interesting I must say. It'd be nice if Disney did just make them platonic since we really don't see much emphasis on male and female friendships in their films. I also think your take on Hans would have been really fascinating, but Disney probably would feel that was too deep for their film (I've had former Disney people critique my story ideas saying I was getting too deep into philosophy for a story idea, so they really do get told often that their films have to be easy to understand.)

I was just being too realistic in my expectations and thought to myself, "Nah this is Disney, Anna and Kristoff are going to end up together."
