outright ron-hate (by harmonians & snapewives, mainly) & ron-is-kind-of-a-stupid-jerk-but-meh was par for the course back in the day

just check the f_w archives

i've not been active in hp-fandom for years, though, so really thrilled it seems to have died down

I do remember that, but there's a big difference between a character having a hatedom and no one liking the character. Perhaps I didn't phrase my previous comment too clearly ;)
