Sherlock Season Premiere

I was incredibly unimpressed by it. Nothing in particular sticks out as why for me just the whole thing did not feel like I was watching a real episode and there wasn't anything special or fun about it. If you gave me ten words to describe my response to the show I would choose underwhelmed for all of them.

The ending ratings vs starting ratings indicate YANA. 14.9 million at start and 8.5 million at finish with 9.8 million with first day of iPlayer ratings added.

LOL they gambled playing to the lowest common denominator(s) in the fandom and they LOST. That's glorious!

I sort of feel like that too. I enjoyed it more on rewatch (maybe because I wasn't so excited and knew what to look forward to), and I certainly didn't hate it or anything (it could've been better, for sure), but the amount of pandering was sort of ridiculous and took me out of the moment; it felt like fanfic. (Not saying I didn't find the kisses amusing or hot, it's just...they didn't need to be there. Anderson's group gave me secondhand embarrassment. Yes I'm a shipper, yes I'm a slasher, but these sort of things being brought up in TV shows typically makes me cringe. Looking at you, SPN.)

Plus, there was very little actual case, but I get that Sherlock and John's reunion (and Sherlock's other reunions, too) was so important that the episode needed to focus largely on that. Still, the pacing was a bit weird because of it.

IDK if it's just me or if the writing was a bit off or what, but yea, hopefully the next two episodes are better.

Though an anon above (in the 'unpopular opinions' thread) said that people have been waiting on the episode for so long that maybe nothing can meet those kinds of expectations, and that might very well be part of it.

I got so bored I stopped watching about 30 minutes in.
