Ayrt

I don't think it made him a bad person either and I really don't see all the fuss over it. He wasn't completely neglectful and it was clear that he loved all of his children, but the airbenders and their entire damn culture was almost wiped out. So him focusing more on Tenzin and handing down traditions to him just seems to make sense me. So I really don't see how this is such a surprise to people.

I don't see the show as presenting him as completely neglectful either; I think it's also a fair reading to take the kids' perceptions with a grain of salt (not to negate their experiences of how their father interacted with them, but that their perception isn't really objective).

Exactly and while I agree that we should take their perspective with a grain of salt, I think that he was probably a bit more neglectful than some people think. I think it's absolutely silly that some people think that this makes him oh so horrible and outright abusive. Tbh, I think this thing serves to make Aang more flawed and human.

Yes! I think it makes him human. Agreed.

:3 thanks. I kinda thought I was alone in this line of thinking. Plus, this was sort of my headcanon for Aang, so seeing in canon was nice.
