I always see a terrifying underlying message in comments like these, that if it takes a movie to help you realize something you should have already known, you don't deserve the help at all. It's not good enough that the OP found the encouragement to support their brother, it's better to keep suffering and letting their brother suffer more than to get help from a movie?

Yeah I see a lot of "man it's really pathetic that you had to learn that from[source]". It annoys me too.

Some people don't HAVE an innate understanding of things like others do. It's easy for some to sit there and laugh about how it's "pathetic" that someone needed to learn a social skill from, say MLP. But it's also an example of people taking for granted some understanding or knowledge.

You don't know the whole story, though. What if their brother was emotionally or physically distant to them all the time. What if they thought they couldn't help, but seeing the movie made them see that maybe they could.

I think that's what they're arguing...unless you put the reply in the wrong place.

and I agree. Details like that could make all the difference and it was pretty shitty of the person who attacked them to just assume they were close or it was "easy" to get to them.

That is what I was arguing, yeah. That I don't agree with the message I was talking about at all.
