It's one of those cases of "popular fanon getting mixed up with canon" things. A lot of people identified with the whole "hiding your true self and then being outed" theme, and the most popular projection was of someone having to hide that they are gay, and then being outed on it. The fact that Elsa had no romantic interest in the movie (though the post-Letting Go hairstyle sure didn't help, either) led to the whole "Elsa's story is about queerness!" allegory getting so popular as a headcanon/fanon.

But parallel =/= canon. People just have some trouble remembering that.

I like the headcanon, but I'm gonna ship her, or not ship her, with whoever I want, male or female and I'm getting tired as shit of people getting butthurt at not accepting that headcanon as truth.

I sincerely hope this was not directed at me. I said "headcanon" in my post, for goodness sake. Everyone knows that Elsa is not canon gay. (though she's not canon straight, either) I'm not in the fandom if there is one, but I'd have trouble believing anyone actually believes Elsa is canon gay.
