I mentioned yesterday that I was surprised to find that fandom shipped a pairing in the same way I shipped it, which was: unrequited Gwaine/Merlin in which Gwaine is devastatingly in love with Merlin, but Merlin is only interested Arthur (romantically or just the whole destiny verging on non-platonic thing that is already present in canon). I was surprised to see so many fics with that unrequited vibe, though it makes sense since the vibe is present in canon as well.

Heh. I didn't have a thing for unrequited until now, but there's a moment in the second Gwaine episode where Merlin is all like "I'm doing this for Arthur," assuming that Gwaine is too, but Gwaine is like, "No, I'm doing this for you, Merlin." Then Gwaine looks at him pointedly and Merlin is like, "Oh. Um." It hurt a little and, with that scene, I shipped it. Wish Gwaine was in the show more.
