I need ideas!

[personal profile] unicornherds 2014-01-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I've decided to give HabitRPG a try and I've got a few Habits, Dailies, and To-Dos but I'm stumped on what to put in as "Rewards". I know I don't have to have rewards but I'd like to. I don't have money so nothing that costs anything, and I'm attempting to re-train my brain in regards to health and eating so no foods as a reward, and I'm just generally stumped. Any ideas?

I know you said you don't have money, but would it be possible for you to put a little away for every habit? Like, every reward is putting a dollar into a special jar, then when you have enough, you get a larger reward, but you're not having to put in more than a little at a time.

The other thing is, when it comes to food, maybe healthy rewards? Like, some sort of fruit you like, or premaking cookie dough, and freezing it in portion controlled balls, because those would help to re-train your brain (fruit=treat/reward/good, or portion control), while still being rewarding.

I just don't like the idea of food=reward. I'd rather just think of food as neutral, you know?

But the money jar is a good idea. I might be able to swing that. And it would work well as a long term incentive/motivation. Hmmm, good thinking anon!

Okay, I see a bit better where you're coming from, and that makes sense.

Thanks, plus that way you can set an umbrella goal, and when you hit that, you'll be prepared for it.

Episodes of a favorite TV show? Hobby/crafting time?

Rewards can be anything you like to do. Hell, use internet time as a reward. Use going on fandomsecrets as a reward.

I often reward myself with video games for studying and grades.

This might sound childish, but you could give yourself a sticker/gold star or design your own "achievement" badges for every milestone.

Oooh, hey! Thanks for posting a link, btw. This is exactly the kind of thing I need.

As for rewards...hmm. The money jar thing is good, or maybe just setting aside time for something you enjoy? Like rewatching/reading/playing your favorite tv show/book/game?
