You missed my whole point, though. It's not really about the physical media as a principle. I'll gladly take console games on DVD or Blu-Ray, but fuck buying PC games on disc anymore. With a console game, I just pop it in and play, maybe the console goes through an automatic install process but it's relatively painless and I know it will work. With a PC game it's way more of a hassle. That and PC games are much, much cheaper bought digitally -- I could get Dark Souls for 6 bucks last month, but if I wanted the PS3 version on disc it'd cost me like $30.

I do get that, and if you have a fast connection and no issues with downloading then it is MUCH cheaper, especially if you wait a bit and don't buy immediately after release.

PC games are a hassle in general for me because I'm not knowledgeable about specs and never know if a game will run on my computer or not. (I'm aware of Can You Run It, but I don't think all indie games are included?) Plus, yes, installation is a pain in the ass.
