maybe I'm looking too hard, but I've already noticed a trend in fantasy lately of writing lots of asshole characters. There's flawed, which is good, but sometimes I read stuff and am like why am I even supposed to like this character, again? What are their redeeming qualities? Which are questions I asked myself often during my brief stint reading GRRM.

That was exactly my problem with the series! Well... okay, one of the many problems. I agree that there's flawed, and there's realistic, and there are shades of grey. But when I feel like everyone in the series is a horrible person, what am I supposed to enjoy about reading this?
