Several others have said it, but I'm adding to the chorus: that song was a goddamn coming-out anthem.

Every, and I mean every, queer person I know who has seen it had the same reaction.

That song makes me regret something fierce that they're sisters because I want to ship them so hard after that song.

So very, very much. So very, very, very much.

Because sisters. And to make them not sisters - well, that requires rewriting the first half or so of the film.

Plus I know some people who have been as desperate for a sister story as I am for more dyke fairy tales (see: Melinda Lo's Ash, and not much else), so, yeah.

So I could do it, but it would have to be a seriously different AU, and I'm fine with that, really, but more work. And I might do it anyway. But it's a lot more worldbuilding, and I'd rather tend to do that in my own work. But I might make an exception, because yeah.

Honestly, the fact that they're sisters doesn't even seem to slow down most of the shippers I've seen. There's 300+ Elsanna romance fics on the Pit of Voles right now, and 54 on AO3, some pretty graphic. If incest is a squick for *you* that's one thing, but if it's not then I'd say go for it.
