"And only about 30% of the "violent" game market is women."

... and you should always ignore anything that 30% of your market might be interested in?

Well yeah. If you have a formula that you know 30% of women will play regardless, why change it? Especially if it may lower the amount of men (your biggest consumer) who are going to play it.

So ... you claim that men won't play a game with a female protaqonist?

How droll.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
No I don't think they will unless they look like some shitty VG character type with large breasts and a perky ass.

It's like, I want to agree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

Which is why they made Lara Croft LESS like that, right?

At this...

Cause nobody cared about metroid, ever since, you know that very first game where we found out Samus wasn't a boys name.

Older Samus' shoes make my feet hurt just looking at them. I know games aren't usually realistic, but seriously. I don't think I could even stand in those for more than a minute or two, much less run.

That was but one of the many, many problems with other M of course.

To be fair though, Raiden from the MGS series wears heals like that too. Different games and manufacturers, but at least there is one lone male character out there in heels as well. (Who is pretty much canonically straight, though YMMV)

heals? Sheesh. Heels.

Ned to stop drinking in the mornings.

Raiden's 'heels' aren't heels, though. They move, they're appendages, like an opposable thumb. He uses them like another set of hands so he can grip his katana with his feet.

If you want manly men wearing high heels, check out just about any old school live action western. A lot of those rugged boots have 2" heels on them (or higher), and nobody ever called them girly.

I have the feeling plenty of men play GTA because they feel macho doing it, and for that kind of mentality, women must not be the protagonist, just the "whore" you hit (ie).

Or maybe that's what RockStar believes, but I'd be surprised if agood portion of GTA enthusiasts weren't teen males with sexist views that want to play men that are tough and treat women like shit.

Actually I think guys play GTA because they can blow shit up in a city and run people over and basically do whatever the fuck they want without real life consequences. I don't think it has to do with "being macho" or sexism or misogyny.
