You thought Amy was a reference to Donna because they were both redheads? And was Moffat giving the finger to RTD?

Well... ok then. That's... an interesting idea.

Since the OP says "what was done" to Donna, I'm going to take a wild fucking stab in the dark that they were referring to Amy saving the universe and the Doctor by remembering things and resisting having her memory tampered with.

Yeah, that was more or less how I took it at the time.

yeah, I started with Amy and then after her and Rory's run went back through Rose, Martha and Donna, and then after Donna I rewatched a bit of the early Amy episodes and the memory theme REALLY stuck out at me, especially how urgent Eleven sounds at the end of the episode with the Daleks when he's telling Amy she oughtn't have forgotten that. And what she's forgotten and wasn't supposed to forget is the EXACT INCIDENT that led to Donna being forced to forget her travels with the Doctor. I wish they'd actually had him talk more about Donna at that point but it's pretty much my headcanon that one of the things he's worried over isn't just the impossibility of someone forgetting their planet was moved, but also the thought that what if everyone who does know what Donna did for them forgets too

What if her family forgets

But yeah after watching season 4 season 5 did seem a bit like a take that. Especially with what the first incident that comes up in season 5 is.
