...The Lord of the Rings review came out last July. Why make this secret now?

Could be that too. I always wonder how many newbies we get every month.

Maybe they just found it? Not everybody is constantly plugged in to everything related to a fandom they like.

Why? Is it any less valid because it's late to you?

Is there a time limit on secrets? Are people required to be in fandoms by a certain time, or their opinions don't count?

I feel for future generations who come into Harry Potter, or any of the other fandoms. I'm sure you don't want older people who've been in the fandoms longer than you treating you the same way.

Web original series have a much shorter life span than books. With a very popular series, it's not difficult to find it again in a library or bookstore, even decades after their popularity has waned. Web series are a current medium and can be gone in the blink of an eye - the website goes down, the video provider dies, the Internet personality stops posting new content and are forgotten in months. A reviewer like the NC puts out a new video every week or so, where a new book in a series can take years.

Yeah, some people find a new personality and binge on all their videos, but from the way the secret was worded, I got the impression that the watcher had stuck around the NC and finally called it quits after the mentioned reviews.
